A team of plain-clothed police officers raided a house in Swindon this morning as a crackdown on drug use and dealing in one area of the town continues.

Police arrived in a number of unmarked vehicles, parked away from the target property in Barnum Court, Rodbourne, ran across the road and entered the home at around 11.30am.

A police dog entered the house and officers soon after removed a quantity of class A and B drugs were located as well as a number of high-value goods believed to be proceeds of crime.

A grey Mercedes Benz, which is usually parked near the targeted address, was guarded by a PCSO.

A 50-year-old local man was arrested on suspicion of being concerned in the supply of class A and B drugs and money laundering and is currently in custody in Gablecross for questioning.

Acting Sergeant Nathan Martin said: “We are aware of the concerns expressed by local people in Rodbourne in relation to illegal drug use in the area in recent weeks and in response to this we have been conducting a number of regular overt and covert patrols to provide both reassurance and tackle those intent on supplying drugs within our communities.

“We’ve had some good results on the back of this work combined with the information provided to us by residents, and today we were able to arrest a man following a warrant at an address which has been causing concerns for neighbours in recent weeks. We will be seeking a closure order for the address over the next few weeks.

“The supply of illegal drugs can be detrimental to those directly and indirectly involved and we are intent on tackling those who offend. I hope this result provides reassurance and encourages others to report any issues they may be experiencing in their neighbourhood.”
