Police have called in the bomb squad after discovering ‘suspicious items’ during a raid.

The Royal Logistics Corps Bomb Disposal Unit was at the scene in Penhill at around 4pm this afternoon following the discovery while carrying out a warrant some hours earlier.

The emergency services parked in Oaksey Road to attend the address in Urchfont Way. Despite the large police and army presence, the road remained open and residents weren’t evacuated.

An officer from Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service also attended the incident.

A spokesperson for Wiltshire Police said: “During a warrant at an address in Urchfont Way, Penhill today, officers located a number of suspicious items.

“Due to the nature of the items located and in the interests of public safety, the fire service and Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) have been called to the scene to ensure the area is safe.

“No residents have been required to evacuate at this stage.

“Officers remain at the address while the incident is dealt with.”
