A van driver has been charged with two offences after a fatal crash in Melksham.

Elderly friends Cheryl Decarteret and Margaret Shaw were rushed to hospital following a road traffic collision in Lowbourne in September 2025.

The pair were struck by a white Ford Transit van, which was reversing along the road. Despite the best efforts of doctors, Cheryl passed away.

A 25-year-old man was arrested by officers at the scene on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and drug driving.

Now Harry Parsons, of Roundpond, Melksham, has been charged with drug driving.

According to court documents, it’s alleged he had 20 micrograms of cocaine and 248 micrograms of benzoylecgonine (a metabolite of cocaine) per litre of blood.

The legal limit for cocaine is 10 micrograms, while the limit for benzoylecgonine is 50 micrograms.

Wiltshire Police are understood to be continuing their investigation into the death of Cheryl and serious injury of Margaret. Further charges may follow at a later date.
