UPDATE: Pensioners hit by van now in critical condition as police arrest driver
Two women hit by a reversing van in Melksham have been rushed to hospital.
Emergency services were called to a road traffic collision involving two pedestrian casualties in Lowbourne at around 1.30pm today (Saturday).
A drivers was reversing a long wheelbase Ford Transit van when they struck two women in the road, who its thought were attempting to cross.

Both casualties, understood to be pensioners, sustained serious injuries and were initially given first aid by members of the public and police officers.
Local ambulance crews arrived a short time later, followed by Great Western Air Ambulance – which landed in King George V Park.

Once stabilised, both women were taken into land ambulances and conveyed to hospital for further care. It’s understood they were taken to Southmead Hospital in Bristol.
Neither casualty is believed to have sustained life-changing or life-threatening injuries, according to Wiltshire Police. As such, a full forensic collision investigation was not carried out.
The road was closed in both directions until shortly before 3pm.
