A cat has had his leg amputated after being shot in Royal Wootton Bassett.
The injured moggy, named Simba, was handed in to a local veterinary practice – but the owner couldn’t afford to pay out the significant amount needed to save his life.
Purton Cattery – which provides both accommodation and cat rescues – were contacted, and the pet was signed over into their care last week.
It was initially believed that Simba had been struck by a vehicle, but an X-Ray confirmed that he had been hit by a pellet from an air rifle – which had shattered his right upper front leg.
A fundraiser was launched to pay for his urgent treatment at Drove Vets, which included the amputation of his leg. The surgery was carried out successfully.
“It’s going to be a long road ahead, but he’s already showing just how strong and resilient he is”, a spokesperson said.
Adding: “Sadly, his previous owner didn’t have him neutered, so he’s a bit of a smelly boy right now but we’re hoping to get that sorted as soon as he’s fit and well enough.”
The shooting happened in the Interface Business Park area of Royal Wootton Bassett. Anyone with information should call Wiltshire Police on 101 quoting log 54260041581.
The cattery has thanked those who have donated towards the veterinary costs, with contributions being made directly to its account at Drove Vets.
