Three people have been injured in a crash on the A303 just outside Wiltshire – with the route shut for more than 24 hours so far.
Emergency services were called to a road traffic collision involving four cars on the major road between Andover and the junction for Tidworth on Saturday (11 April).
Wiltshire and Bath Air Ambulance and Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance (HIOWAA) were scrambled, treating a number of casualties with other 999 crews.
The incident involved a Vauxhall Mokka, a Ford Puma, a Ford Kuga and a Volvo at around 12.30pm – which had all collided on the westbound carriageway.
HIOWAA airlifted an 82‑year‑old woman – the driver of the Vauxhall – to the Major Trauma Centre at Southampton General Hospital with potentially life‑threatening injuries.
The passenger of the Vauxhall, a 78‑year‑old man, suffered serious injuries to his chest. His injuries are not believed to be life‑threatening or life‑changing.
A passenger of the Volvo, a 9-year-old girl, suffered minor injuries.
A spokesperson for Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary said: “The incident remains under investigation at this time.
“As part of our enquiries, we would like to hear from anyone who witnessed the collision, the moments leading up to it, or the immediate aftermath.
“We are also keen to speak with anyone who may have relevant dash cam footage.
“Anyone with information is asked to call 101, quoting reference 44260168907. You can also submit information to us online.”
At 2pm today (Sunday), the road remained closed in both directions. National Highways say the it’ll remain shut until this evening for surface repair work.
A spokesperson said: “The collision resulted in a significant fuel and oil spillage, which resulted in damage to the road surface, which now requires resurfacing.
“These works will be taking place later today, and the road will remain closed until they are complete.”
