Famous Swindon artist Ken White has died aged 82 – after being admitted to hospital.
Ken was best known for creating the Scarlet Lady emblem for Richard Branson, which featured on Virgin Atlantic aircrafts following the launching in 1984.
Ken, who lived with his wife Jan in The Mall in Old Town, also designed and painted murals on buildings across the country – many of which are in Swindon.
In May this year artist Tim Carroll restored the Golden Lion Bridge mural in Fleming Way. The refreshed version was signed by Ken ahead of its official unveiling.
Announcing his death this morning (Wednesday), his family said: “It is with great sadness that we write to let you know that our dad Ken passed away peacefully in the early hours of this morning at the GWH.
“He was admitted on Thursday following a worsening of his breathing and did not respond to treatment over the next few days.
“He was with his loving family at his bedside to the end. Love, Laura, Asa and Joel.”
