An arrest warrant has been issued for a man accused of leaving a dog in a hot car.
Police were called to Stirling Road in Swindon last summer following reports of a German Shepherd locked in a vehicle in the blazing sunshine.
Officers were forced to free the pet, and took they it to their kennels to be cared for. The owner was later interviewed over the incident.
Now, 25-year-old Shuja Amjid faces prosecution – charged with failing to ensure the welfare of the dog, who is named Bruno.
It’s alleged the dog was “kept in a hot car which was in the sun and they had no food or water in a small boot space” on 9 July 2025.
But the man, of Weald Drive in Crawley, West Sussex, didn’t attend his first hearing at Swindon Magistrates’ Court on 23 December.
An arrest warrant was issued for the defendant due to the offence carrying a potential prison sentence if he is found guilty.
Police are now tasked with locating and arresting Amjid. Once in custody, he’ll be remanded and put before the next available magistrates court.
