A driver has sustained serious injuries after a head-on crash on a Wiltshire route.
Wiltshire and Bath Air Ambulance was scrambled to the scene on the A342 in Lydeway, near Devizes, shortly after 12pm on Saturday (13 December).
The two-vehicle crash involved a black Audi TT and second car, of which the make and model is unclear. Both sustained front-end impact damage.
At least one fire crew attended the incident alongside police and ambulance, and it’s understood firefighters extricated one casualty from the Audi.
They were airlifted to the Major Trauma Centre at Southmead Hospital in Bristol for further care. Wiltshire Police confirmed that the driver sustained serious injuries.
Officers kept the road closed as they awaited an update on the person’s condition. Life-changing or life-threatening wounds may have sparked a forensic collision investigation.
However, that wasn’t the case – and the road reopened around seven hours.
A spokesperson for Wiltshire Police said: “We responded to a two-vehicle road traffic collision on the A342 in Lydeway at 12.08pm following a call from the ambulance service.
“One driver sustained serious injuries and was transported to hospital for treatment.
“The road was closed so that oil and debris could be cleared up but it has since reopened.”
