A 20-year-old man has been arrested after a high-speed pursuit through Swindon.
At around 2am on Tuesday (28 October), officers attempted to stop a Mercedes in Pinehurst. The driver failed to stop, leading to an authorised pursuit.
The car was driven at double the speed limit along Whitworth Road before turning onto Thames Avenue.
It lost control and crashed into a metal fence before being boxed in by pursuing officers.
The man was arrested on suspicion of failing to stop for police and dangerous driving. He was further arrested on suspicion of driving without a licence and without insurance.
He also tested positive for cocaine and cannabis at the roadside.
A Wiltshire Police spokesperson said: “We have arrested a man on suspicion of various driving offences following a pursuit in Swindon in the early hours of this morning.
“At around 2am, officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a Mercedes in Pinehurst.
“The vehicle failed to stop, resulting in an authorised pursuit. The Mercedes drove double the speed limit along Whitworth Road, before turning onto Thames Avenue.
“It lost control and collided with a metal fence, and the vehicle was boxed in by pursuing officers.
“The driver, a 20-year-old man, was subsequently arrested for failing to stop for police and dangerous driving.
“He was further arrested for driving without a licence and without insurance, and gave a positive drugs wipe for cocaine and cannabis.
“He remains in custody for questioning.”
