Police officers raced to the scene of an incident at a Devizes nature reserve yesterday, following reports of a man pulling a knife on a dog.
At around 12pm on Tuesday, 3 October, a woman was walking her dog at Drews Pond Nature Reserve, when the incident occurred.
The man is said to have pulled a penknife on the dog when it began barking at him. Despite the dog returning to its owner, he continued to jab towards the dog and kick out with his foot, causing the dog to bark further.
A Wiltshire Police spokesperson said: “The woman involved is okay but understandably shaken. The incident was then reported to the police when she returned home.
“Officers were dispatched and conducted a search of the Drews Pond area but with the delay in reporting there was no trace of the man.
“We want to reassure the public this is a rare incident and that despite pulling a pen knife in response to the dog he made no verbal threats to the woman.
“We take reports like this extremely seriously – It is important that incidents of this nature are reported immediately via 999 so that we can respond appropriately.
“When out dog walking in often isolated locations we would advise the public to ensure they take a mobile phone out with them in case of emergencies.”
