A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a woman’s body was found in a house.
Police attended the property in Wroughton at around 1.45pm yesterday (16 November) and found a woman, in her 50s, deceased at the scene.
The semi-detached house in Lancaster Road was cordoned off as a crime scene and detectives have been called in the probe the death.
Forensic investigators were seen at the address for most of the afternoon and evening, and further work is expected to continue at the scene today.
A 76-year-old man is currently in police custody having been detained at the house.
Wiltshire Police has confirmed the suspect has been arrested on suspicion of murder.
A spokesperson for the force said: “We are currently investigating an unexplained death in Wroughton.
“Officers were called to an address in Lancaster Road, Wroughton, shortly after 1.45pm yesterday afternoon (16 November) and discovered the body of a woman in her 50s.
“At this stage her death is being treated as unexplained and we are awaiting the outcome of a post-mortem later today.
“A 76-year-old man was arrested at the scene and is currently in custody at Gablecross Police Station.
“Our enquiries are at a very early stage, so it would be inappropriate to comment further at this time, but we would like to reassure the local community that there is no risk to the wider public.”
