A woman has died after being struck by a train at Trowbridge station.
Emergency services were called to the scene at about 6pm yesterday (Wednesday, 20 March).
Paramedics attended the incident, but a woman – aged in her early 20s – was pronounced dead.
Despite the rumours circulating on social media, no children died in the incident.
“British Transport Police received a report shortly after 6pm yesterday (20 March) to a casualty on the tracks near Trowbridge station”, a force spokesperson said.
Adding: “Paramedics also attended however sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene.
“The incident is not thought to be suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”
Following a short investigation, the railway line reopened at approximately 8.30pm.
A spokesperson for the South Western Ambulance Service said: “We were called at 18:04hrs on Wednesday 20 March to an incident in Trowbridge.
“We sent a double-crewed land ambulance, one responding officer and one operations officer to the scene.”
