A woman has died and two others have suffered life-threatening injuries in an M4 crash.

Emergency services were called to the motorway westbound in Swindon shortly before midday today (Saturday) following reports of a single-vehicle collision.

A grey Volvo S40 left the carriageway and struck a tree close to the Mill Lane overbridge – situated between junctions 15 and 16.

The front seat passenger, a woman aged in her 60s from Oxford, died at the scene.

The male driver and a female passenger, aged in their 20s, have both been taken to the Major Trauma Centre at Southmead Hospital in a life threatening condition.

A male passenger, aged in his 30s, sustained an arm injury.

Specially-trained officers are supporting the next of kin of those involved, Wiltshire Police confirmed.

Anyone who witnessed the collision, or anyone who may have dash cam footage, are asked to contact the Serious Collision Investigation Team on 01225 694597 quoting log number 127. Alternatively, email SCIT@wiltshire,police.uk.
