A woman has been detained under the Mental Health Act after a fire in Corsham.

Police were initially called to a welfare incident residential address in Kings Avenue at around 3.30am on Sunday (12 May), but left the scene a short time later.

At around 6.40am, fire crews were sent to reports of a blaze at the same property.

Firefighters from Corsham, Chippenham and Calne tackled flames in a first floor bedroom. It was quickly extinguished using hose reel jets.

A woman, aged in her 40s, was taken then to Royal United Hospital in Bath by ambulance for treatment after inhaling smoke during the fire.

Police later detained the woman under the Mental Health Act and it’s understood she was taken to a place of safety for further care.

It’s understood an investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing.
