A woman has been ‘detained’ by police after a mental health incident on the A419.
Officers closed the major route northbound at Blunsdon, on the outskirts of Swindon, at around 1.30pm this afternoon (Thursday).
It came after police received calls from people reporting their concerns for the welfare of a woman on the embankment at the side of the carriageway.

According to one witness, the woman was heard sobbing loudly as officers attempted to engage with her at the roadside.
It’s claimed the woman was detained by officers and placed into the rear of a police van.
At the height of the incident armed police, local PCSOs and officers, and a roads policing unit were on scene.
In a statement, a spokesperson for Wiltshire Police said: “Officers responded to reports of a welfare concern involving a woman beside the A419 in Blunsdon at about 1.30pm today (26/02).
“She has been taken into the care of officers at the scene and will be given appropriate support.”
The incident is not a ‘crash’, as incorrectly reported elsewhere.
