A woman who was bitten by a dog in a Wiltshire village has warned others to be cautious.
The incident happened in South Newton, near Salisbury, on 7 November and has reportedly been reported to Wiltshire Police.
The victim said she was walking in the area when she encountered two women with a white, long-haired German Shepherd dog.
She explained that she stopped to speak with the pair and, as a dog lover, went to greet the animal, which appeared calm at the time.
The woman said: “Be mindful. There are two women who walk a white female long haired German Shepherd dog.
“Do not approach this dog, although pretty and appearing very quiet and calm, she bites.
“I spent the evening in A&E. I am grateful that my injuries weren’t as bad as they could have been, however, had I been a child or elderly person it would have been much worse.”
She said the dog growled as she went to stroke it, but before she could pull her hand away, it lunged and bit her.
“The dog was much quicker than me and lunged, grabbing my whole hand in its mouth and clamping down,” she said.
“The owners just watched as I struggled to release my hand from their dog’s mouth.
“I was babbling, crying, and bleeding and in shock after literally ripping my hand out of the dog’s mouth.”
She said the two women did not offer their details or apologise following the attack.
The woman added that she has never been bitten by a dog before and has no reason to withhold information about the incident.
Wiltshire Police are understood to have been made aware of the incident.
