A woman has been arrested following an afternoon crash on a busy Swindon route.
Firefighters were forced to cut the driver free from her vehicle after it ploughed into a set of traffic lights on Drove Road at 2.45pm today (Tuesday).
The road was blocked in both directions between Groundwell Road and Upham Road for a short time, before partially reopening to motorists an hour later.
Wiltshire Police has since confirmed that the driver, a woman in her 20s, was arrested on suspicion of being unfit to drive through drink or drugs.
In a statement, the force added: “We were called at around 2.45pm on November 29 to Drove Road to a single vehicle RTC after a car collided with a traffic light.
“Recovery is ongoing, and we would urge drivers to avoid the area.”
A spokesperson for Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service said: “We received a call at 2.49pm about a road traffic collision on Drove Road, Swindon.
“Crews from Swindon and Stratton attended the incident which involved a single vehicle and set of traffic lights. Firefighters assisted one casualty from the vehicle and left with ambulance crews. Our stop came at 3.22pm.”
