Woman arrested after toddler found in nappy and one sock on A40 near Oxford

A woman’s been arrested after a toddler was found standing at the side of a main road near Oxford wearing only a nappy and a single sock.

Police were informed of the incident at around 9am this morning after a concerned woman found the boy beside the A40 at Risinghurst.

Officers attended the scene and took care of the child for 45 minutes whilst they waited for colleagues to arrive with a car seat.

The woman’s son, who has asked not to be named, told the Oxford Mail: “He couldn’t [have] travelled far as he wasn’t cold despite not having clothes.

“Strange thing was, it was an hour from the time she spotted him until the police car took him away. No frantic parent to be seen. Where did he arrive from? He couldn’t [have] travelled far.

“He [would’ve] been freezing dressed in a nappy and just one sock. My mum actually thought he looked healthy and well-nourished.”

A 24-year-old woman was arrested suspicion of child neglect, Thames Valley Police said.
