A £15,000 gazebo has been burnt to the ground in an arson attack in a village near Swindon.

Firefighters were called to the scene in South Marston in the early hours of this morning following a report of a blaze in St Julian’s Wood nature reserve.

Police officers attended the scene in St Julian’s Close at around 6am and subsequently launched an investigation into the fire, which is thought to have been started deliberately.

A spokesperson for Wiltshire Police said: “The gazebo belonged to Wiltshire Wildlife Trust and is worth approximately £15,000. Enquiries are ongoing.

“Anyone with information should call 101 and quote log number 26 of June 11.”
