A Wiltshire village road has been shut after a motorcyclist was seriously hurt in a crash.
Emergency services raced to reports of a two-vehicle road traffic collision in Broad Town, near Royal Wootton Bassett, at around 1.30pm today (Friday).
The incident involved a Suzuki GSX motorbike and a black Volkswagen Scirocco in Broad Town Road.
The biker sustained serious injuries on impact, and has been rushed to the Regional Major Trauma Centre at Southmead Hospital in Bristol for urgent treatment.
The road is currently closed in both directions between Church Farm House and Pye Lane / Chapel Lane – as officers await an update on the biker’s condition.
If doctors deem their injuries to be life-changing or life-threatening, a full-scale forensic collision investigation will be required and closures will remain in place for many hours.
A spokesperson for the South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust said that they were called to the scene at around 13:29hrs.
Two ambulances, an ambulance operations officer and an air ambulance critical care car were sent, a spokesperson confirmed.
Adding: “We conveyed one patient by land ambulance to Southmead Hospital.”
UPDATE 4.50PM: The road reopened without the need for a forensic investigation, meaning the biker’s injuries are serious by not thought to be life-changing or life-threatening.
