A Wiltshire shoplifter stole £500,000 from firms in a four-year refund scheme.

In most cases, 53-year-old Narinder Kaur’s simple plot involved selecting items from a shop and claiming a refund – despite not ever buying the products in the first place.

Following a staggering four-month-long trial at Gloucester Crown Court, she was convicted of all 26 charges – with a value of half a million pounds.

She even defrauded Wiltshire Council of £7,400 by using stolen cards to make payments before requesting a partial refund for large chunks of the money.

Kaur, of Cleverton, near Malmesbury, claimed £42,853.65 in refunds from Debenhams and £33,131.61 from John Lewis.

House of Fraser, Monsoon, Homesense, TK Maxx and Homebase were also defrauded of large sums between 2015 and 2019, according to the MailOnline.

The court was told that £150,000 was located at her home when it was raided by police.

The defendant now faces a significant prison term for her crimes; she will be sentenced next month.
