Now, officers are looking to identify the two prime suspects pictured on CCTV at the scene outside Old Town Kebab House.

“We urgently need to hear from anyone who may recognise the two persons”, a spokesperson for the force said.

Adding: “Anyone with information should call 101 quoting log  54240047899.

“Alternatively you can leave information anonymously by calling Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.”

Following the incident, Detective Sergeant Craig Rathbone said: “We urgently need to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time.

“We are also asking anyone who may have driven past and have dashcam footage or CCTV from the location is also asked to contact us as a matter of urgency.

“This was a particularly concerning attack which resulted in serious injury.

“Old Town at that time in the evening was busy and it is likely that there are a number of potential witnesses who have yet to contact us.

“Please don’t hesitate – it is vitally important that we identify those responsible.”
