Wiltshire Police have arrested four men over ‘drink driving’ related offending.

The suspects were taken into custody on Saturday night (15 March) and Sunday morning (16 March) – having provided readings of higher than the legal limit of 35 micrograms of alcohol on a breathalyser.

A 42-year-old man was stopped after The Bath Arms in Warminster, in his vehicle. He was found to be intoxicated and blew 109 micrograms on the breath test.

A 54-year-old man was seen driving erratically on Hawkridge Road, Westbury, and got out of the vehicle staggering. He refused to provide a breath test.

A 59-year-old man was found in his vehicle with the engine running outside the Travelodge, Chippenham, and blew 107 micrograms.

A 38-year-old man was arrested after driving erratically on County Way, Trowbridge, without lights on. He blew 104 on a breath test.

Inspector Emily Grigor said, “Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs is not only illegal, but also a reckless and dangerous choice that puts lives at risk.

“The consequences of such decisions can be catastrophic, causing irreversible harm and heartache to families and loved ones.

“Drink driving is one of the Fatal Five driving offences which are most likely to contribute to death and serious injury on the roads. They also include careless driving, driving at excess speed, driving without a seat belt or using a mobile phone.”

The legal alcohol limit for driving is 80 milligrams of alcohol per 100 millilitres of blood or 35 micrograms of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath.

There is no way to know how much you can drink and stay under the limit, since it can depend on your weight, age, metabolism, the amount of food you’ve eaten and other factors. If you’re driving, don’t drink any alcohol at all.

If you suspect someone of drink driving please let police know by calling 999 or you can give information to Crimestoppers through their website: https://orlo.uk/FmPrI
