A Wiltshire man was killed by a train travelling through Chippenham this morning.
The incident involved a Great Western Railway service in the Langley Burrell area of Chippenham at around 5.50am today (Wednesday, 25 May).
The 51-year-old man, who is understood to live locally, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Wiltshire 999s has been told that the death is being treated as suicide.
The railway line was closed for less than two hours whilst emergency services, including Wiltshire Police and Network Rail response officers, worked at the incident.
A spokesperson for the British Transport Police said: “[We] were called to the line near Langley Burrell at 5.50am this morning (25 May) following reports of a casualty on the tracks.
“Paramedics also attended and sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene.
“The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner”.
