Water rescue firefighters from Chippenham and Trowbridge were deployed to North Dorset this morning after an elderly man entered a river.
The incident happened in Wavering Lane East in Gillingham, just over the Wiltshire border, at shortly after 10am, sparking a large fire and rescue service response.
Local fire crews from Gillingham and Wincanton were first at the scene, managing to extricate the patient and his mobility scooter before the arrival of water rescue units from Wiltshire. Other responding crews were stood down en-route.
A spokesperson for Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service said: “The casualty was up to his knees but unhurt and was rescued by firefighters on to the river bank.”
The man was taken into the care of the ambulance service following his rescue.
