A wanted man who sat on a Swindon rooftop for seven hours has been jailed.
Constantin Turcanu sparked a significant emergency response when he climbed out of a window and onto a roof in Newhall Street on Sunday (25 May).
The 29-year-old homeless man has been sought by police over allegations of domestic abuse and public order offences before the dramatic incident.
He eventually came down from the building and was taken into custody. Around 15 officers, alongside ambulance and fire crews, had attended the scene.
Appearing at Swindon Magistrates Court yesterday (28 May), he admitted a charge of causing a public nuisance and breaching a suspended sentence order.
Turcanu was jailed for 16 weeks.
Local Crime Investigator Greenaway said: “Constantin Turcanu took up valuable police time as he put himself and the public in danger. Wasting police or other emergency services time – or misusing our services – is taken very seriously.
“The general public’s best interest is in the forefront of what we do on a day-to-day basis and I am pleased that Turcanu has been held accountable for his actions.”
