Victims of domestic abuse are set to benefit from a £5,000 donation made to a charity by the Rotary Club of Swindon.

The money was handed to Society Without Abuse (SWA) following the Rotary’s Annual Charity Ball, which has been running for more than 35 years and has raised more than £1 million for good causes in the town.

The funds will help the organisation continue its work supporting victims and delivering specialist programmes aimed at tackling domestic abuse through education, prevention and early intervention.

Kate Rowland, CEO of SWA, said: “We are incredibly grateful to Rotary Club of Swindon for this generous donation.

“It will make a real difference to the lives of those in Swindon who have experienced domestic abuse.

“These funds will help us provide vital support at a time when it’s needed most.

“It’s heartening to see the community come together to stand up for the most vulnerable, which is so important if one day we will see a society where abuse doesn’t exist.”

Rotary Club of Swindon, the oldest club of its kind in the town, says it continues to support grassroots organisations through fundraising and local outreach. This is in line with its wider aim of promoting peace and humanitarian assistance both locally and globally.

Jeremy Holt of Rotary Club of Swindon said: “Rotary is delighted to use money raised at a happy social occasion towards the absolutely vital work that SWA does day in and day out.”
