Neighbours heard someone screaming “don’t stab me” moments before emergency services were called to a serious assault in Swindon in the early hours of this morning.

Forensics and detectives from CID have today worked at the scene of a violent machete attack in Affleck Close, Toothill, as police officers watch over the cordon around a small car park.

Blood can be seen across the floor as a forensic investigator collects evidence – including a screwdriver and a glass bottle – from within the crime scene. A number of yellow cones marked out various pieces of evidence on the floor which were first photographed.

During the attack, a 16-year-old girl suffered a wound to the hand whilst a man, 18, suffered injuries to his face. The weapon used is believed to be a screwdriver but this has not been confirmed.

Moments before the pair’s wounds, described as “potentially life-changing”, were inflicted, locals heard screaming and shouting. One heard “don’t stab me”, followed by “you stabbed me”.

Police officers have been guarding the scene since around 1.30am this morning

An 18-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of two counts of Section 18 grievous bodily harm with intent following an intensive search of the area following the attack.

Det Insp Paul Hacker said: “We believe that all those involved are known to each other and we do not believe there to be a wider risk to the public. Officers in attendance at the scene were able to swiftly identify a suspect who we currently have in custody for questioning.”
