A woman was arrested in Trowbridge town park this afternoon after she assaulted two police officers.
Officers were called to the park shortly after 2.30pm following a report of a disorder involving a man and woman. On arrival at the scene, officers located a woman who matched the description given – she was verbally abusive towards police.
The woman – who is aged in her 30s from Trowbridge – was arrested initially on suspicion of common assault, but during arrest she spat in the face of an officer and was further arrested on suspicion of assault on an emergency worker.
Whilst in the holding cell at Melksham custody, she became aggressive once again and sneezed aggressively towards another officer before spitting at him and claiming to have COVID-19. She was further arrested for a second assault on an emergency worker.
She remains in custody for questioning.
Insp Dean Garvin said: “In less than 24 hours, we’ve had three officers spat at by individuals. This is disgraceful behaviour and given the current climate, it is particularly abhorrent.
“These police officers come to work every day to protect the public – they should not face behaviour like this when they come to work.”
