Two dogs have been rushed to a vet in critical condition after a fire broke out at a house in Swindon.

Three fire crews were called to the incident in Dickens Close, Liden, at around 6.30pm today (Saturday).

Firefighters entered the home, which was ablaze, and rescued a single dog from the property.

It’s understood that a second dog was missing within the building, prompting an urgent search inside. It was located about 30 minutes later.

Both animals were given emergency first aid at the scene and have since been rushed to a vet for urgent care. They are said to be in critical condition.

The occupants were not home at the time at the time of the fire.

Fire engines from Stratton (x2) and Westlea were in attendance alongside a senior fire officer.

At 8.50pm, one fire crew remained at the scene.

A spokesperson for Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service confirmed the flames were extinguished by four firefighters wearing breathing apparatus, using two hose reel jets.

They also confirmed that oxygen was given to two dogs after they were rescued from the house.
