House fire update: Lucky escape for occupants as electric blanket explodes into flames
Firefighters have battled a terraced house blaze in Swindon overnight.
Emergency services were called to the serious fire in Beatrice Street shortly before midnight on Monday night (21 February).
The road was blocked in both directions as more than 20 firefighters tackled the flames.
At least four fire engines were in attendance, according to local residents who witnessed the blaze.
Wiltshire 999s understands that the occupants were able to flee the home moments before the fire burst through the skylight window in the roofspace.
Witnesses say firefighters on scene were quick to extinguish the raging fire, dowsing the flames emerging from the window with a single hose – perfectly targeted from the ground.
Next-door neighbours were evacuated during the incident, though it’s not yet clear whether the fire spread to adjoining properties.
Fire crews remain on scene this morning, with investigation work expected to be undertaken through most of the day.
