Group of teenagers ‘frantically tried to save man’s life’ after Wiltshire lake tragedy

A group of teenagers are said to have ‘frantically tried to save man’s life’ after he was found unresponsive in a lake in north Wiltshire.

As emergency services reportedly struggled to locate the serious incident in Ashton Keynes, a number of youngsters battled to rescue the man from Lake 26 yesterday evening (18 July).

It’s understood the teenagers, aged 17 to 19, attempted to locate a defibrillator and carried out CPR as Wiltshire Air Ambulance circled above in search of a suitable landing spot.

First responders eventually reached the location and took over from the youngsters – but the 20-year-old man, from Swindon, couldn’t be revived and died at the scene.

A parent of one of the teenagers involved in the tragic lake rescue operation said they had been left ‘traumatised, in shock and sobbing’ by events.

In a statement released earlier today, Wiltshire Police said: “A man has sadly died following an incident at Cotswold Water Park, Ashton Keynes.

“We were called to the scene shortly after 6pm yesterday.

“Sadly, a man in his 20s was confirmed deceased shortly after being pulled from the water.

“Our thoughts are with his family at this tragic time. We are not treating his death as suspicious.”
