A teenager has been injured after crashing an illegal electric bike in Swindon.

The 17-year-old boy came off his bicycle Redhouse at around 11pm yesterday (Friday, 18 October) – sparking a large police response on the housing estate.

Armed police were present alongside local officers, who appeared to be carrying out searches.

The bike – which had been modified with an electric motor and lots of parcel tape – was seized.

The rider was arrested on suspicion of drug driving following the return of a positive DrugWipe test – indicating that he had cannabis in his system.

He received medical treatment before being taken into custody for processing.

Locals claim police had first spotted a group of youths using illegal electric vehicles at Redhouse Park.

It’s not clear if the boy was attempting to flee police at the time of the crash, or whether a pursuit was in progress.
