A teenage boy has been arrested after at least two people suffered knife wounds in disorder in Calne.

Police were called to The Pippin area shortly after 3pm yesterday (Monday 7 November) following a report of a disorder involving a group of youths.

A 15-year-old boy sustained a stab wound to his leg and two other youths sustained injuries during the disorder.

Officers carried out extensive enquiries at the scene and arrested a 15-year-old boy from Devizes on suspicion of affray and possession of an offensive weapon.

He was taken to Melksham custody for questioning and has since been released on bail while enquiries continue.

Sergeant Michael Tripp said: “Officers were quick to respond to the initial 999 call in relation to this incident and swiftly arrested a teenager who has been questioned and released on bail while officers continue to progress their enquiries.

“Violent disorder of any kind will not be tolerated, especially those that potentially involve weapons.

“This incident would have caused concern and upset within the local community and that is not acceptable.

“There will be a heightened police presence in the coming days while reassurance patrols are conducted and enquiries in relation to this incident are ongoing. Please do not be alarmed by this and if you have concerns please speak to an officer.

“We are currently working alongside Neighbouring Police teams and the local schools in relation to this matter.

“Yesterday’s disorder happened in daylight at a busy time of day. We understand the incident, or events leading up to the disorder, may have been witnessed by members of the public who have not yet spoken to police. If this was you, please do get in touch.

“Additionally, if you have CCTV footage, or dash cam footage which could be relevant to our investigation, please call 101 immediately [quoting crime reference number 54220117558]”.
