A teenage ‘drink driver’ has been arrested after a dog handler was injured in a pursuit.

Police were chasing a silver Volkswagen Fox in Netheravon, north of Amesbury, when a dog unit collided with a wall on a sharp bend at around 1am this morning (Saturday).

The dog handler, who was driving a marked Ford Mondeo, was taken to hospital with head injuries – her injuries aren’t described as life-changing or life-threatening.

The police dogs travelling in the vehicle at the time were not injured and are being looked after while the handler recovers from her wounds.

The driver of the Fox, an 18-year-old male, was arrested on suspicion of drink driving, failing to stop and dangerous driving. He remains in police custody for questioning.

A teenage passenger of the car sustained minor injuries and was taken to hospital to assessment.

The road was closed near Choulston Farm, between High Street and Everleigh Road, for more than nine hours for collision investigation work to be carried out.

The vehicles involved were recovered shortly after 9am and the road was back open by 10.30am.

Wiltshire Police are asking witnesses, or anybody with dashcam footage, are asked to contact the Serious Collision Investigation Team on 01225 694597 quoting log number 12.
