Swindon’s most famous cat is ‘living out his final days’, his owner has announced.
Bob, who has spent a significant chunk of his life patrolling Taw Hill Village Centre, is thought to be on his last legs – but would prefer not to rest up at home.
In an update on 26 September, his owner said that Bob has “deteriorated quite rapidly in the last few days” and is “struggling with his breathing and has lost weight”.
They added: “I have been bringing him home [from the shops] during the day as his breathing does settle when he’s inside and a little cooler, but he escapes as soon as he can.
“Bob is definitely happier when he’s out and about, and sadly I do think he’s into his last days, so whilst he’s not in pain I’d rather he spend that time enjoying his self patrolling the shops and getting lots of cuddles and attention.”
Locals who know and love the feline were left heartbroken by the news – with dozens of comments posted on social media.
“Oh this has broken my heart, I’ve loved Bob for years and always said hello to him and let him jump into the car for 10 minute cuddles”, one person said.
Another said: “You are such a beautiful boy and hope you can spend what time you have doing what you love to do and getting loads of fuss as you are so amazing and loved by so many.”
A woman penned: “A true legend. I’m so sorry and will pop by to see him tomorrow morning at the shop. God bless you my darling.”
