A woman who assaulted a police officer in an ambulance has escaped a jail sentence.

As first reported by Wiltshire 999s, South Western Ambulance Service was called to an incident outside Booth House at around 8pm on Sunday 23 August last year.

Arriving at the scene, paramedics soon after requested assistance from Wiltshire Police due to a male patient becoming aggressive towards them in the ambulance.

20-year-old Tiegan Lloyd, of Milton Road, Swindon, had taken a drugs overdose and was holding onto the man with her arms around his neck.

Police officers managed to free the man from her hold, but she became violent towards them. She punched PC Jessica Sowden in the chest (which was protected by her body armour) and then spat in her face.

The woman is said to have shown remorse for her actions and is getting herself back on her feet – including receiving treatment and medication for mental health issues.

Lloyd pleaded guilty to assaulting an emergency worker, criminal damage and breaching a conditional discharge. She was sentenced to a community order to last 12 months.

Despite not receiving a prison sentence for her crime, District Judge Joanna Dickens told her she will imprison her if she is brought before the court in the future.
