A Swindon woman was ‘eaten by her dogs’ after taking her own life, Swindon and Wiltshire Coroner’s Court heard on Friday (7 March).

45-year-old Jemma Hart was found dead by police after concerns were raised about her welfare by neighbours in Wilmot Close, in The Prinnels.

Officers entered her home in January 2024 to find that her dogs – two dachshunds – had partially eaten her over the course of a month following her death.

One of her dogs had died prior to their arrival, while the other was described as “distressed”.

The court heard that Jemma had mobility problems and suffered with her mental health, though had not been in touch with professionals for some time.

Toxicology reports confirmed that she died by suicide. Area Coroner Ian Singleton concluded that Jemma had taken her own life.
