A Swindon road has been closed by the fire service after vegetable oil was spilt.
Gallons of the liquid poured onto Devizes Road, at the junction with Newport Street, at around 12.30pm this afternoon (Monday).
Firefighters have blocked the road while the spill is dealt with. It’s not yet clear how long the closure will be in place for.
Motorists are being told to avoid the area.
A Dorset and Wiltshire fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “Crews are currently in attendance at a spillage of vegetable oil in Swindon.
“Please avoid Devizes Road at the Junction of Newport Street.”
Stagecoach, the bus company, said that services 49, 9, 81 and C9 will be diverting via Groundwell Road and Newport Street – with the Old Town Prospect stop missed.
