A trans child rapist from Swindon was caught using fake name online after burning ‘hate mail’.

Alex Smith, who was born Matthew Burren and now identifies as female, pleaded guilty to failing to comply with the notification requirements of the sex offenders register on 12 November this year.

The defendant, of Beaulieu Close, Toothill, also admitted three breaches of a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) – by failing to inform police about three internet accessible devices.

Smith was convicted of raping a five-year-old when she was aged 12, and has been back before the courts on many occasions for new crimes, including possessing prohibited images of children.

Police were alerted to her use of an alias online by a neighbour earlier this year – who got suspicious about what she burning on the grass under a tree in the street.

31-year-old Smith was burning a letter addressed to Rezzed Nova. It said: “You’re a disgusting f***ing pedo”, amongst other things.

On another occasion, the neighbour told her to stop burning things and Smith placed it in the bin. The neighbour checked the discarded item – packaging with the name Rezzed Nova and her address.

Concerned about what Smith had received in the post using a fake name, it was reported. Officers had already been investigating the SHPO breaches, and they were charged at the same time.

At Swindon Crown Court on 13 December, she was jailed for two years and three months.
