A Swindon primary school pupil and their teacher have tested positive for coronavirus.
Public Health England informed the school of the child’s confirmed result on Saturday, with the headteacher taking immediate action to inform the parents of children within the same teaching bubble.
Both pupils and staff within that same bubble at Shaw Ridge Primary School were told to self-isolate and obtain a COVID-19 test.
But this morning the school informed parents that a teacher – of the same bubble as the diagnosed child – had also tested positive for COVID-19.
“We are continuing to take all necessary steps as advised by Public Health England to ensure this does not spread further and all staff who have been in close contact with the infected staff member must be tested as a precautionary measure”, headteacher Sally Cowell said.
Adding: “Because of this, we do not have sufficient staff to maintained the Y6 class bubbles, at least for the remainder of the week as we await the staff test results.
“Parents have been informed and children have been collected.”
