Two Swindon police officers have been taken to hospital after a suspected drug driver crashed into their vehicle in the early hours of this morning (Thursday).
Emergency services were called to a road traffic collision involving a van and a police car outside Morrisons in Victoria Road, Old Town, at around 2am.
The driver of the van, a 25-year-old man, attempted to leave the scene of the incident on foot – but was swiftly stopped by a member of the public.
He was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and drug driving. Following a trip to hospital as a precaution, he is now in custody for questioning.
Two officers, who were travelling in a police car, were assessed at the scene by paramedics and taken to hospital as a precaution.

As a result of the impact, the marked police vehicle mounted the pavement, demolished a telecommunications cabinet and impacted the wall.
