A man pinned his pregnant girlfriend down and bit her because she wouldn’t let him move in.

Appearing at Swindon Magistrates’ Court this morning (14 February), 22-year-old Bradley Baker pleaded guilty to assaulting the woman by beating her last June.

Prosecutor Tom Power said the defendant, who gave his care-of address as Roystone Road, Swindon, persistently begged his then-partner to move in with her.

When she repeatedly refused and said she did not want him to live there, tensions escalated.

Baker grabbed her by the arms and pinned her to the sofa. As she struggled, he bit her hand – leaving obvious teeth marks and reddening, but no serious injury.

His now ex-girlfriend does not support the prosecution, but she has not allowed the defendant any access to their child – which was born last month.

The court heard how homeless Baker has previous convictions for drug driving and failing to stop for police. He has a caution for assault, but no convictions for violence.

Emma Hillier, defending, said her client had an “immature relationship” with the mother of his child. They got pregnant “very quickly” after starting the relationship.

“Since the baby has been born and there’s been no contact with the complainant since the date of the incident”, she said.

MORE COURT: Man promised police officers he would poo in their van – but only managed a wee

Adding: “He’s not even sure what the child’s name is or when it was actually born. He is desperate to see the baby and he is trying to sort that out via social services.”

Baker’s mother and father supported him in court.

The case was adjourned for a pre-sentence report to be compiled. He will return to the same court for sentencing in March.
