A Swindon man crashed his car in front of a police officer before fleeing the scene.
Jordan Osbourne-Oreilly, 32, was involved in a three-vehicle collision on London Road in Marlborough at around 9.10am on 17 May this year.
A police officer, who happened to be dealing with another matter nearby, witnessed the incident unfold and told the defendant to stop.
Instead, Osbourne-Oreilly – in a Renault Megane – left the scene.
The vehicle was later sighted being driven along the Great Western Way in Swindon and was stopped near his home in Ely Close, Toothill, where Osbourne-Oreilly was detained.
He failed a roadside breath test and was arrested. The defendant pleaded guilty to drink driving at Swindon Magistrates Court on 11 June.
He was sentenced to a 12-month driving ban, a fine of £333 and £218 in costs.
