A Swindon man has been arrested following a child abduction attempt in the town centre.
At around 4pm on Sunday 9 April, a woman and her two-year-old were walking along Curtis Street towards the Tented Market, when they were approached by a man who took hold of the child’s hand and said: “You come with me; I take you to school.”
The man is described as Indian, aged around 50-60-years-old, approximately 5 foot 2inches tall and slim with short dark hair. He was wearing a light blue shirt and cream coloured trousers and was pulling a blue shopping bag on wheels.
Wiltshire Police confirmed that they swiftly arrested a 65-year-old local man in relation to the worrying incident; he was later released under investigation.
DC Snez Lennon from Swindon CID said: “If you were in the area at that time and heard or saw what happened or anything which seemed suspicious, please contact me.”
