A low bridge in Swindon is blocked after a van became wedged under it.

Police were called to Corporation Street following the road traffic collision at around 3pm this afternoon (Thursday).

A Luton-style Mercedes van is stuck beneath the railway bridge, which is well covered by signage displaying its height.

The road is closed in both directions between Station Road and Great Western Way as officers work to recover the vehicle.

Network Rail have also been called to the incident to access damage to the bridge.

Traffic is building in the area – the route would be best avoided for at least the next hour.
