Six youths have been charged after a teenage boy was seriously hurt in a hammer attack outside a school in Swindon last year.

Police were called to a disorder close to St Joseph’s Catholic College, in Ocotal Way, at around 3.15pm on 12 March 2024.

A 14-year-old boy sustained serious injuries after being attacked by a group of youths – with at least one armed with a hammer.

Six youths – all males aged between 13 and 17 – have been charged with inflicting grievous bodily harm with intent.

Two of the teenagers, aged 13 and 17, have been charged with possession of an offensive weapon – namely a hammer – in a public place.

They have all been bailed to appear before Swindon Youth Court on 30 April.

At the time, Detective Inspector Phillippa Sharpley said: “This attack on one person by a group, some of whom were carrying weapons, is extremely concerning and will not be tolerated.

“Our thoughts are very much with the victim, who required hospital treatment.

“For this to have taken place outside a school, as children were leaving with their parents, is sure to have caused a great deal of concern in the community, however this is being dealt with robustly and with the full force of the law.
