A Swindon driving instructor was caught drunk behind the wheel, police say.
John Tibangu was stopped by officers in Royal Wootton Bassett this morning (Friday) following a tip-off stating that he may be driving whilst under the influence.
After failing the roadside breath test, he was arrested and taken to Gablecross custody.
There he provided an evidence sample of nearly 70 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35 microgrammes.
“Due to his occupation and the risks he posed to himself, his students and the public, he was remanded in custody for the next available court hearing”, a force spokesperson said.
He pleaded guilty to drink driving and was disqualified from the roads for 18 months.
The spokesperson added: “If it wasn’t for the information provided by the public, this driver would likely have continued to teach learner drivers whilst over the prescribed limit and could have caused a death or serious injury on the roads.
“If you suspect someone of drink driving, call 101 or 999 in an emergency to report it to the Police.”
