Swindon council staff have caught a snake after it climbed out of a toilet.

A sheltered housing tenant reported finding the royal python in their loo recently.

Oliver, a parking team leader, and James, a payroll administrator, took the lead – helping to safely capture the reptile before it could visit other properties.

They teamed up with housing response officers and contractors to ensure it went smoothly.

“Two weeks ago, an unexpected guest slithered its way up from a sheltered housing resident’s toilet”, a spokesperson for Swindon Borough Council said.

Adding: “Yes, you read that right – a royal python gave our teams a very unusual call-out!”

“After an overnight stakeout (because the snake made a great escape under the bath), the team managed to secure and safely rehome it with Cold-Blooded Creatures.

“But don’t worry, snakes don’t usually pop up in toilets, this one was most likely just on an unexpected adventure.

“A huge sss…shoutout to everyone involved for going above and beyond to keep our residents safe.”

Cold-Blooded Creatures, based in BSS House in Cheney Manor, provided a positive update on the snake’s wellbeing.

A spokesperson said: “Snake is still doing very well, eating great and putting some weight back on.”
